8. Meditate for 5 to 20 minutes a day.
9. Be compassionate with yourself and others.

11. Be generous with your time, talents and treasures.

About six months ago, through communicating about doing workshops in the Mideast, my friend in Lebanon, Tatiana Kesrouani, asked about my religion ... I then wrote in an article ...“My religion/spiritual path is universal peace and love. I have a very big family: Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jews, Indigenous peoples and all religions are my brothers and sisters, if they want to be.”

Today, I began posting further thoughts on religion on my Facebook page ...

"THE BIG QUESTION: Can humans evolve past religious stories and rituals that keep them indoctrinated and brainwashed in new and old religions, competing with, and harming each other, or can we become a wise, loving, collaborative, co-creative civilization, that can sustain 10 billion people in 2050, while caring for the Earth, our collective home?"

I went on to write, "All religions use magical stories to indoctrinate ... what we need is wisdom, love and creativity to co-empower, collaborate and co-create a sustainable world...."

I continued, "In my opinion... I think religions may have caused more harm than good on this planet... turning many into sheep, many into robotic fundraisers, and others into holy soldiers -- killers... "

Then, "How many people on this planet are wise, loving and creative, working to create a sustainable planet for all and for nature?"

A religious friend then sent me an email disagreeing with my
assessment of religions... "ALL religions use magical stories to teach and to provoke thought, SOME use magical stories to indoctrinate."

I responded, "My point is, why do we need fake, magical stories at all? ... Are humans so childish they need hocus pocus to capture their attention? Why can't we have authentic, wise, loving, creative teachings, that teach ONENESS and UNITY? Unfortunately many religious people actually believe their magical stories are real... and they profess to be THE RIGHT, BEST, CORRECT religion ... making all the others WRONG... Then they foster armies of fundraisers and soldiers to PROTECT AND SERVE THE FAITHFUL FLOCK (and pay the leadership well) ... and the flock of sheep are led by the shepherds... into unsustainability on planet Earth...

Thus, I realized that at this point in the evolution of humanity, religions need to be evaluated.

But who can evaluate religions?

Why do we really need religion?

Can we do away with religions, and help people to become wise, loving and creative?

Over the years, people can become hurt, cooler, a bit unfriendly
and detached.
    To enjoy meaningful relationships requires Heart Healing, you gradually becoming friendlier, warmer, and more able to enjoy simple, healthy fun and good conversation. Many children have suffered in families through bickering and conflict because parents never learned compassionate, collaborative, creative communication skills. The children can sometimes become lost and detached in the world of violent video games, TV and porn – non-relational and uncommunicative with real people.
    To heal this, adults can become conscious and intentional in helping children and teens communicate by taking time to say kind words to them and helping them learn to share about their feelings, needs, goals and dreams. Adults can encourage children and teens to keep learning and keep communicating.
    To help your community, please make a call to someone you know in a school, library, organization or house of worship to help set up one of my COUPLES SKILLS (for singles and couples) workshops or PARENTS COMMUNICATION SKILLS workshops.

It starts with the attitudes of the people. You have to go beyond yourself if you are going to be able to work with other people. Be respectful of others.

Here is a Community Building Model you can use. It starts with helping people go beyond their Self-Centeredness.

Often a community exists but members are having significant problems, making anything except survival, and fulfilling short-term needs, impossible. Community Visioning & Planning get thwarted.

The community can advance through focusing on small, non-political, trust-building workshops and projects to build respect, relationships, skills, confidence and success.

Hold a workshop in Listening Skills. Take a few months to build listening skills and relationships with a few people.

Keep adding people with respectful attitudes and listening skills to the group. Make Listening Skills and Learning cornerstones of all your work together.

MEN Giving-Up Unheathy Pleasures

MANY MEN don't recognize the impact that negative video games, competitive sports, and pornography have on their thinking and emotions.

These forms of entertainment can be addictive and leave you insensitive to others' feelings and needs, as well as leave you feeling unhappy, angry and fearful of others.

I encourage men to cut down on video games, TV and Internet porn by becoming more active in something – a hobby, a course, an instrument, exercise, a social program, an organization, helping others in the community.

In the new year, become your greater possibility. Use "The Serenity Prayer"... cultivate feelings of SERENITY, the COURAGE to change, and using WISDOM to discern what is better for you – healthier pleasures.

Changing a habit takes time, you may have setbacks, and more setbacks.

Get right back on your program for change and further development! One day at a time...

Relax, meditate, become one with the Creation... ask yourself... "What can I do to give up any remaining superficiality, negativity or addictions and create a more meaningful, purposeful and creative life for myself, my family, my community, the world?" Quietly listen to what your Higher Self tells you...

Capitalism on Steroids & Revolution or Meditation & Healing the Mind & Heart

This week I was writing about capitalism and mediation... healing, re-parenting and love...
I realized that families without loving relationship and communication skills produce teens who turn into adult hoarders and aggressors... see below the threads woven into a tapestry of love...

In the past 30 years, capitalism entered a new phase – "Capitalism on Steroids," with electronic day-trading of derivatives, currency, commodities, short-selling, hedge funds, making millions a day from billions invested, while the rest of humanity becomes impoverished.

With this "Philosophy of More" the wealthy compare themselves to each other, want more, and more, and more – a mental illness, an obsession with more. It may be only a revolution will stop them. A colleague wrote:

"Civil War is coming to every financial capital. It's called Occupy Wall Street. Search #OWS on twitter. Movements of this kind take 7 years to reach mainstream 2017. That day, in 2017, negligent bankers will stand trial in London, NYC, Amsterdam, Frankfurt. They can run but they can't hide."

I pray for the damaged and sick minds and hearts of these wealthy and obsessed people, they are so sad, wasting all their money on egotistic pursuits, or just hording it, rather than helping to co-creatively develop a new, sustainable world.

Some people think hoarding (greed) comes from being cold and selfishness; others think from being fearful and insecure, and the only way they feel secure is to hold onto stuff (money),

I see that the hoarder-greedy ones may have been abused or love neglected, unloved as children, now they are love-avoidant, without love skills, without warmth, fearful of gentle love and emotional intimacy, uncomfortable with kindness, devoid of empathy and compassion for others.

All they want is more and more travel, things, fancy food, fine wine, clothing, jewelery, houses or money... and for some, power over others.

I offer wealthy people the chance to re-parent themselves and learn love skills in the 7 Keys to Love book, workshop or phone coaching. They have much love to share, just like others, but their hearts are frozen, in need of kindness and a willingness to grow and change.

Meditation can help us grow a garden of love and helps us heal. Simply sit and quiet yourself, notice what places need healing within. Listen to your heart’s true desires. Encourage yourself to make friends with any fear, pain or addiction residing within you. The only way to finally dissolve fear, pain and addiction is with compassion and daily self-care. The seed of compassion-love-kindness is within you. Nurture it each day. Grow the love within you, this way you are helping to take care of yourself and care for the world.

There once was a hungry mouse who scurried around a greedy man's house. The mouse covetously ate his cheese. The greedy man billowed with anger and wheezed. The greedy man also had a neurotic cat, all day it whined, schemed and obsessed, trying to convince the tiny, shiny goldfish, to visit his stomach as his permanent quest.

The moral of the story:

Pleasant sights and words may capture your mind; awareness can free your heart. Things may fuel your obsession and desires; meditation can help you discern the liars, serenity will heal your heart, and then take you higher.

Helping Wealthy People Become Social & Civic

Greed can be recognized compassionately as a "hording obsessive compulsive disorder" growing from fear of not having enough, fear of others, or low self-esteem. Many wealthy people have become isolated in "Luxury World" and need help relating to society, caring, sharing, and repairing the Earth.

You can help them and society by engaging them in meaningful, heartful, conscious conversation. Have a conversation with a wealthy person and try to help them appreciate him or herself, society and the Earth. Help them become social and civic minded.

Show kindness toward a wealthy person and help them become philanthropic to donate his or her time, money, and/or reputation to charitable causes.

A philanthropist may not always find universal approval for his/her deeds. Common criticism includes supporting an unworthy cause (such as funding art instead of fighting world hunger) or having selfish motivation at heart (such as avoiding taxes or attaining personal fame).

We are working to help wealthy people understand the need for creative sustainable communities worldwide to ameliorate population growth, steady work for most people, commonwealth for all, and a sustainable planet. We hope to engage wealthy people in this creative work and help them enjoy sharing their fortunes with those who need help creating sustainable families and communities, and then working collaboratively to repair out planet – Earth. We are working to create a healthier, kinder planet for all.

A NEW ECONOMIC SYSTEM
I'm being interviewed on WBAI today about 7 Keys to Love...

In 7 Keys to Love I called for a new economic system based on “Love and care for the self, others and nature, with all goods and services deriving from that principle.” That has led my thinking to the need for sustainable communities worldwide and commonwealth for all.

Can the obsession for money, power and control, so prevalent in human history and human nature today, be transcended or transformed with love, compassion and kindness as all the religions have been trying to do for thousands of years?

The 7 Keys to Love book and workshops present healing tools for teens and adults to heal their childhood trauma from abuse, harshness, judgementalness, neglect and abandonment that broke their hearts and stole their love, peace, joy, happiness, enthusiasm, wonder and creativity, inherent in most every child.

With 7 Keys to Love, teens and adults begin to learn to re-parent themselves, nurture and comfort themselves, and give themselves love. They can then go on to share their treasure of inner-love with others in their family, community, nation and the world.

Thus, the love-healed person can become a healer in the world. The “lovable, loving and loved” can then be a presence for healing and love with all around them.

GREED PREVENTION
My “radical” philosophy is that those obsessed with money, power and control are mentally ill, and in need of compassion and healing. The financially greedy may need to be restrained by the courts or regulators, but ultimately, we need a better educational system to teach character, emotional, social and relationship skills to create a better society for all and the Earth. The greedy can be helped to be generous though public education and training courses in philanthropy. Philo means love, and anthropy means humankind. Together, philanthropy means “love of humankind.”

I often end my speeches with: “May the best in humankind bring-out the best in humankind. May the best, brightest and wealthiest among us be generous with their time, talent and wealth for our communities and with nature. I am also helping to form
The Bank for Humanity & the Earth toward a new economic system based on commonwealth and sustainable communities, encouraging the wealthy to become Financial Champions for Humanity and

Collaboration for Competitive People

Increasingly, people express to me their dismay over the “communication deadlock” in the workplace and government – people not being open to listening, learning and growing with each other.

People know some facts, have feelings, and firmly hold values, opinions, beliefs and “models of reality” in their minds – they have “inner software.” Until they realize this, they are trapped defending their ideas as if they are inviolable. They are “right” and others are “wrong.” Probably only 10-20% of people are aware that this “inner software” is running, and sometimes ruining, their lives, and it becomes almost impossible to communicate meaningfully when people hold their ideas too firmly.

People often have "repetitive patterns" that are not helpful. To change patterns we need to raise our level of awareness about them.

Compassion for the Greedy

We, the People of Love, Compassion & Kindness
hope the Occupy Wall Street & Everywhere folks can calmly recognize that Individual and Corporate Greed is a mental and emotional illness. We hope they can have compassion for the sickness.

Each week, we can meditate and pray for the opening of the heart and healing of the mind of the greedy. We can then guide the young and older to be generous, love and care for themselves, each other and the Earth.

George Harrison sang:

Wishing a Happy and Sweet New Year

Jewish people around the world wish each other "L'shana tova!" meaning happy and sweet new year. I wish it could be so, but I don't think the world will be sweet, yet.

How could it be when many people locally, nationally and globally still systematically train their children to be intolerant of each other's race and religion.

As I do my nightly walking exercise in the mall, I see the faces of the young. They often match the blank expressions of the mannequins.

TV shows often teach children to be violent, course, cruel, indifferent. They teach them to idolize celebrities and ignore the people around them.

I facilitated the first monthly meeting of the Long Island Learning Community last night. Great people attended. These were some of our findings for the night:

* Half the people showed-up who said they would. The others must have forgot, something came up to prevent them from attending or had low commitment. The missing people didn’t call or e-mail to say they weren’t coming.

* Many people have no loyalties.

* Many people pay attention to celebrities and not the rest of us.

* Racism hurts adults and children.

* We need communities where people look out for each other.

I shared that my book 7 Keys to Love is quite radical, calling for use of love as a transformational process to recreate ourselves, our relationships, our families, communities, our economic system, and to love the Earth. Idealistic youth, adults and elders would love the book. You can get your copy and please read it to the end. It's not a romance novel... 7 K eys to Love author Sandy Hinden will present workshops on Long Island in October to help children, teens and parents communicate in a way that leads to success and wellbeing. Executive director of the Dix Hills Performing Arts Center, Sandy Hinden will present Parents Communications Skills as an interactive lecture in the Southold Library on Thursday, October 6, 7 pm and in South Huntington Library, Thursday October 27, 7 pm.

            Hinden provides these workshops in libraries, with PTAs and youth organizations locally, nationally and globally. He is also currently seeking funding to present the training with Native Americans parents in South Dakota where their youth are suffering greatly and seeking to provide the training in the Middle East with Jewish, Muslim and Christian parents. Tatiana Kresrouani, Creative Director, of TKDesign in Lebanon said, “This is the best program and peace process ever…” and Nina Nobel, of the Nobel Prize family, who works with the The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) wrote “The world needs many tools, and many teachers to bring out this message and bring about this healing. Good Success in your endeavours Sandy… may your work be blessed.”
            The Parents Communication Skills workshops grew out of Sandy Hinden’s writing 7 Keys to Love. Hinden recently sent 10 copies of 7 Keys to Love to the Rosebud Sioux Tribe in South Dakota who invited him to do the workshops in schools and at a youth detention center.
            Popular producer, vocalist, musician Tom Cavanagh wrote this on Hinden’s blog “The 7 Keys to Love should be mandatory reading for humans! Sandy Hinden has helped the world for 35 years the arts, education, health and human services, peace building, the environment and community development. He sees that communications and collaboration skills help families heal, organizations grow and communities come together to address concerns and needs of all involved. He has provided workshops for parents and teachers from K-12, at libraries, in business meetings, faith communities and youth-serving organizations. In the past, Hinden he has served as a fundraiser for a Boys & Girls Club and is currently on the advisory council of the Lakota Youth Arts Center being developed in South Dakota, and Families Advocating for Compassionate Treatment in Santa Barbara, California.

“This Santa Barbara youth-serving organization would like to present the Parents Communication Skills workshop and needs funding. I work with youth and see they face enormous challenges every day: shrinking school budgets; shifting job markets; pressure to buy, use and sell drugs; pressure to use and be involved with porno and prostitution; and feeling the hurt of parents and siblings who are also suffering. Youth need the ability to communicate clearly, positively, respectfully, creatively and powerfully if they are to succeed in an often difficult and competitive world. Parents need to have and communicate a path to wellbeing their children can believe in.”

         His program in libraries and schools provides youth, parents, teachers and social workers with: a set of Values and Character Traits for wholesome success and wellbeing; Communications Skills from Assertiveness Training, Transactional Analysis and Compassionate Communication; Collaboration Skills to be an effective Team Player and caring Family Member; and a process for identifying an Important Interest, a Positive Possibility, a Plan, a Program to stay on track, and a daily Practice to help the children and teens reach a chosen goal.
           Hinden notes, “There is great interest on the part of schools and youth organizations to provide their youth and parents with this communications training. Groups, PTAs and libraries can bring this training to their parents. Private donors, foundations and corporations can become a sponsor of a youth and parents workshop training, locally, national or globally. I heartfully welcome them contacting me to become being a presenter or sponsor. Their support will improve lives, families and communities for generations to come. All people need a community of care. That is part of the work I do to help make families and communities sustainable, creative and enjoyable.
