The U.S. Supreme Court (6/27/2011) just upheld the right of minors to use violent video games in spite of games where the objective is to rape a mother and her daughters, or another game where players attempt to fire a rifle shot into the head of President Kennedy as his motorcade passes by the Texas School Book Depository. Soon, children may play three-dimensional high-definition games wearing equipment that will allow them to actually feel the splatting blood from the blown-off head of a victim.
Many video games present graphic sex, sexual assault and extreme violence, criminal behavior, and the glamorization of disrespect for the most basic norms that make up human decency.
I seriously wonder what is the effect of playing violent video games 1-2 hours a day on the ability of a teen to learn communicate. Today, from the workshops I present, I see that most adults and teens don’t know how to communicate their feelings, values and needs, and make respectful requests to meet their needs.
At the same time, teens are suffering around the world. They need love, guidance, a good education, a career path, work, and interpersonal communication skills to form healthy relationships.
I write about, and speak about, that happiness comes from inner-appreciation for life, for yourself and for other others. 7 Keys to Love helps teens and adults learn the attitude and skills of inner-happiness and inner-love: love and appreciation for others; love for nature, the arts and creativity; and love for the world and the universe, and whatever we call its Creator.
