Before It Is Too Late!

ARE WE GROWING A WORLD

INTELLIGENCE and even EDUCATION without CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT is a dangerous thing because it may increase a person’s ability to create unethical strategies (con-games, exploitation, humiliation of others, bridges to nowhere) that include self-interest, such as wealth building, without consideration for others and nature.  It allows the person to be successfully unethical: I Win / You Lose / The Community-Nature Loses

Win-Win-Win
is when I create a beneficial and ethical result for myself, others and nature.  It is important that society make sure highly intelligent people receive character education or they will cause havoc in the lives of others or nature.
In building character, two principles are “the strong” and “the good.” The character that is strong, but not good, may have force, but cannot use that force in the building of the greater civilization.  The character that is good, but not strong, will not have sufficient power to carry out its ideals. It is the strong and the good, combined, that builds mind and character, and brings into being the greater person and the evolved society.

"We make a living by what we get,
but we make a life by what we give."
~ Winston Churchill

VALUES & CHARACTER TRAITS FOR A BETTER WORLD

FOR SENIORS Exploring
VALUES & CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
In Senior Centers, Retirement Communities,
Libraries & Religious Organizations

 THE PROBLEMS
  • RELIGION can lead to repression, guilt & shame
  • CAPITALISM can lead to greed & destruction of the environment, communities & families
  • GOVERNMENT can lead to over regulation & stifling of creativity & entrepreneurship
  • GREED can lead to disconnection, exploitation of people & nature
  • CORRUPTION can lead to hoarding resources
  • WAR can lead to harming humanity & wasting resources
  • OVERPOPULATION can lead to poverty, massive migration & conflict
 THE SOLUTIONS
  •  SUSTAINABILITY leads to seeking to balance the needs of humanity & nature
  • MORAL AND CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, VALUES CLARIFICATION, ETHICS EDUCATION can lead to thinking, speaking & behaving in ways that are sustainable

As lawlessness, greed, and lack of ethics in business and government are leading to “failed” states around the world, we need a lively discussion of healthy values and character development that can lead humanity to turn this around.

It is urgent that we help the next generation transcend self-centeredness and selfishness so they can contribute more to the good of society. Seniors need to step-up and be wise elders and teach the young.

  1. First, we will explore a set of healthy values and character traits that can lead to a sustainable world.
  2. Then, we will look at the difficulties of discussing values and character and the need for an Open Values Forum, to develop appreciation for our most cherished values and clarify concerns, interests, and needs of all involved on planet Earth.
  3. Then, we will look at the need to transcend the Culture War between religious values that can lead to intolerance of others and lack of creativity, and commercial values that can lead to greed, sexploitation, addictions and the deterioration  of nature.
We will also realize that Values Clarification is needed in relationships for relationships to last.  As the author of the classic, The Little Prince wrote: “Love does not consist in gazing at each other, but in looking outward together in the same direction.”  Values agreement leads to more peace and wellbeing in relationships, families and the whole world.

Informed seniors
are essential for passing along wisdom
to younger people

People and society

are stuck
behaving in un-evolved ways…
  acting selfish, disrespectful, unprofessional,
stubborn and competitive.

People and society
need to evolve
and collaborate creatively to
redesign society and repair nature.
We need to accelerate the
growth, development and enlightenment
of humanity and society
before it is too late!
